More Details on the Program
History
Since its introduction in 1991, Centerpoint's Cycles of Change model has continually evolved and has become an invaluable tool in our work with individuals and organizations. It helps people get unstuck in any part of their lives and careers and can be used to understand everything from the macro to the micro. Centerpoint has trained all of its core faculty, interns, apprentices, and staff over the years and is proficient at educating others on the principles and application of the
Cycles of Change.
Vision
At Centerpoint we feel so strongly about how useful the Cycles of Change model is that we want to share it with other helping professionals so that more people and organizations can benefit from this unique perspective. We want to be able to reach other populations who are not serviced through Centerpoint’s offerings. We can do this by training others who work directly with these populations.
Application and Interview Process
All applications are reviewed by a Centerpoint committee and potential candidates for the program are interviewed face-to-face or by telephone. This occurs on a rolling basis and no later than two weeks after the application deadline. Candidates are then informed of their acceptance into the program.
Criteria for Selection
Candidates who are accepted into the program will have some basic skills and experience. For acceptance into the Individual Track, you must show evidence of counseling skills. For the Group Track, experience is necessary in group facilitation. Centerpoint is looking for participants who will be resources for each other during the program and, at the conclusion, will be able to apply the Cycles of Change model in an immediate and practical way with their clients, employees, and/or constituencies.
Structure of the Program
This four-month certification program includes two days each month for three consecutive months, an evaluation by a panel of two to determine if you are ready for the fourth internship month, and, when evaluated positively, a fourth internship month of applying the Cycles of Change with support of six hours of personalized coaching. At the end of the internship, the coach recommends you to Centerpoint for certification.
Learning Approach and Materials
Centerpoint’s approach to teaching and learning is very experiential and practical. The program includes between-class writing assignments and in-class role-plays, case studies and discussions. A large binder of materials, handouts, and worksheets to support the learning is also included.
Follow-up Support
Graduates are welcome to arrange quarterly group coaching conference calls so they can share their use of the Cycles of Change model with each other as well as get input and advice on further integrating their learning from a participating Centerpoint facilitator.
Additional one-on-one coaching with a faculty member is always available at an additional fee.
Using the Copyrighted Centerpoint Materials
Upon successful completion of the certification program, a graduate may choose to become a “licensee” who is authorized to use the Centerpoint Cycles of Change materials. There are additional fees involved in licensing these copyrighted materials. As a licensee, you will continue to receive additional new materials related to the Cycles of Change that are developed by Centerpoint.
Recertification
To maintain your Centerpoint Professional Certification and so that Centerpoint can be assured that your skills in using the model are up-to-date, recertification is required every two years from the original date of certification. To recertify you submit a written report on your continuing use of Centerpoint's Cycles of Change and successfully complete a recertification evaluation.
"I find Centerpoint's cyclical change model to be one of the more useful tools I use in therapy. Combined with the rest of my theoretical knowledge, it informs my sense of intervention and offers practical next-steps for my clients in very helpful ways." - D.S., Therapist
"I wholeheartedly believe in the cyclical nature of change that Centerpoint offers in its model, allowing time, space, and appreciation for introspection and renewal, as well as for those times in life that are filled with commitment, energy, and clarity." - L.W., Business Manager
