What Color is Your Parachute? author Richard Nelson Bolles in Seattle!
Thanks to the efforts of the University of Washington Alumni Association, the Puget Sound Career Development Association, and Centerpoint, the best-selling author, Dick Bolles, was in Seattle for a week of four different events.

Did you know that the Library of Congress named Parachute one of “25 Books That Have Shaped Readers’ Lives”? What Color is Your Parachute? shares this list with books like War and Peace, The Catcher in the Rye, and The Bible!

The first event was on Wednesday, June 25th from 7:00 to 8:30pm at Town Hall in Seattle. Facilitated by Seattle media personality Tony Ventrella, they discussed careers, career building, and retirement planning in the 21st century and fielded questions from the audience. TVW filmed the event and you can watch the entire thing on their website. Thanks to Dennis Williams Photography for covering the event on film. Here's a photo of Dick and Tony on stage.

The other events included an intimate (24 people) fundraiser for Centerpoint on Friday, June 27th. Thank you Chef Amadeus for providing a wonderful culinary delight! And, PSCDA sponsored an all day workshop with Dick on Monday, June 30th called "The 7 Most Important Ideas for Deciding What to Do with Your Life" with a dinner following that honored the enormous impact that Dick has had on millions of people's lives.

What an honor to have been able to see Dick Bolles in person and listen to his inspiring words of wisdom. Be sure to listen to the Town Hall event as soon as you can! If you're interested in where else you can hear Dick speak, check out his website!

The celebratory reception from 6 to 7pm included champagne and tasty appetizers provided by the Talaris Conference Center with live instrumental guitar music wafting down from the rafters! Then thanks to our community partners and some inspirational testimonials from those who have participated in Centerpoint’s various services.

What a celebration of abundance for our new home! It was standing room only for the mini-interactive workshops on LifeWork Renewal, Passion Search and Finding Your Fit from 4 to 6pm. Core faculty Kari Knudson, Trudy McKnight and Susan Mason-Milks received rave reviews on their facilitation and the room was abuzz with passions being shared and connections being made.

Thanks to:

  • Debra Aungst from the Puyallup School District who described the successful team-building that her management team experienced through Centerpoint’s facilitation of their retreats over the past three years,
  • Alice Meleney who talked about her positive experiences with the services for individuals in which she participated, and
  • Urs Koenig, a core faculty member and partner coach at Centerpoint who highlighted how the Cycles of Change Professional Certification Program has benefited his work.

Then lots of recognition and appreciation of all those who are a part of Centerpoint (staff, faculty and board) and all those helped with the move. There are so many…

We highly recommend these businesses that so generously gave of their time and talent to make Centerpoint’s dream come true!

More heartfelt thanks to those individuals who have given so much through their in-kind and financial contributions:

Melissa Bland, board member, who coordinated the beautiful postcard / invitation as well as the program for the open house and has been a huge support to Centerpoint in so many ways.

Manuel Brown, creative handy-person extraordinaire who spent mega-hours after work to construct walls, lay slate, coordinate electrical, and keep us on target.

Rhonda Brown, board chair, who coordinated the acknowledgments for the volunteers and goes way above and beyond to support Centerpoint’s work.

Christie Clark who volunteered her time to graphically design the beautiful postcard/invitation and the open house program.

Diane Davison who redesigned our beautiful, new web site in record time even though she had never done this before!

Susan Mann, board member who couldn’t be with us tonight but provided for some of the refreshments.

Timothy O’Brien who coordinated the space plan, put in a ton of muscle into demolition and construction, and held the vision of the possibilities.

Roseann and Tom Vecchio whose support over the years has been unwavering.

And a huge thank you to all the volunteers who helped with lots of elbow grease:
